Mit seiner geradezu paradox erscheinenden Interpretation der Rolle des Seefahrers als „Stubenhocker“, den erst der Schiffbruch zum Abenteurer macht, stellt er für Christian Wachter einen zentralen Ort in seinem Referenzmeer dar: jenem Meer, das unseren schier grenzenlosen Vorrat an Bezugsmöglichkeiten in der Tiefe des (Unter)Bewusstseins umschließt, aus dem die Erinnerungen wie von selbst aufzutauchen vermögen. With its almost paradox interpretation of the seafarer as a “homebody” who only becomes an adventurer through shipwreck, he represents another locus in Christian Wachter's sea of references: the sea that encloses our almost endless repertory of possible references in the depths of our (sub)consciousness from which memories seem to surface by themselves.
